Weird and Wonderful Uses of Skips

We all know that skips are a great practical solution when it comes to de-cluttering our homes and getting rid of our old rubbish. However it might surprise you to learn that skips aren’t just for rubbish, and over the years a number of individuals have embraced the humble skip and found new interesting, and rather unique uses for them. So here we take a quick look at some of these alternative weird and wonderful uses of skips.

Whilst you might have heard the phrase modern art is rubbish echoed before, some artists are in fact embracing this. For example back in 2012 artist David Bachelor revealed a rather unique new art installation in the form of a yellow skip (featuring a glowing yellow trim) placed in the streets of Brighton. The work was designed to make people think, by transforming the often ordinary and overlooked into something people would pay attention to.

Swimming Pool

Upcoming British designer Oliver Bishop Young had the rather unique idea to complete a project in which he converted empty skips into a variety of fantastic spaces including a skate park, a garden, and even a swimming pool using a variety of reclaimed materials. He also presented a further installation at the London Design Festival’s sustainability event Greengaged, back in 2008. This consisted of a converted skip complete with turf, steps and even a tree and was created with the intention of encouraging discussion concerning the importance of sustainable design.

Wedding Transport

One brave bride was reportedly so enamoured with the humble skip she commissioned a converted skip to transport her to her wedding, shunning the more traditional Rolls Royce. The skip was painted blue and decorated with glitter and even had a carpet and seats installed.

Examples such as these illustrate how skips really aren’t just for rubbish. If you’re looking for West Lothian Skip Hire, then here at Buchanan Skip Hire we can help.
