Our main Waste Recycling centre is based in Livingston, West Lothian and has a full SEPA Waste Management Licence. Additionally, our Waste Carriers Licence to allow our vehicles to transport the waste for recycling.
Our processes are relatively simple. We deliver the size of skip that you request and once it’s full if you contact our office. We then send one of our drivers to collect it again. The driver collects the full skip and safely returns to our Waste Recycling Centre in Livingston. Here, the waste is tipped in accordance with our accredited ISO:9001 and ISO:14001 procedures.
All waste in our skips returns to our own Waste Recycling centre in Livingston. Once there, our calibrated weighbridge records the weights, ensuring accurate record keeping and out turn reports.
Our Recycling Processes
Once at our Waste Recycling centre, our vehicles follow our one way system. The skips are tipped and the waste is put through a number of different processes to segregate and remove as much as possible for further recycling. We have a range of state of the art machines which ensures maximum efficiency. Our current diversion from landfill rate is an impressive 98.6%.
By segregating and further recycling as much of your waste as possible, meaning our prices as low as possible. This also ensures that we minimize the impact upon the environment.
Our focus is on training and continually improving our skills, knowledge and processes. We use a combination of in house and external training providers. It is important for our team’s skills to be the forefront of the industry. Our team boasts the complete range of qualifications from NEBOSH, WAMITAB, ICAS, RHA and being members of CIWM.

Our Environmental Impact
We also have our own full time in house RHA qualified International Transport Manager. John is able to further minimise our impact upon the environment by planning our vehicles journeys and routes in advance. This extra effort minimises any unnecessary journeys and reduces the impact our vehicles have on the environment from transporting your waste.
All our vehicles have in built trackers which allow our Transport Manager to accurately track exactly where your skip is and how far away the driver is from your address. A feature of this system is that we are able to plan our vehicles journeys to ensure they are as short and efficient as possible.
At Buchanans, we have a fantastic range of customers throughout the whole of the West Lothian, Edinburgh and Falkirk regions. We are suppliers to a large number of Local authorities, Housing Associations, local and national businesses and householders. We can offer accounts or accept payment by cash, card, bank transfer etc.
Our skip hire software allows our system to record order numbers and email invoices electronically to ensure accurate invoicing. By having grown organically over the past 31 years, it has allowed us to focus on our customers’ needs. We’ve slowly built up our skip stock levels so that we now have the complete range of skips and bin sizes.
