Over 30 years in the making…
In the beginning
After being made redundant as a welder in 1987, Buchanan Skip Hire was founded by James and Morag Buchanan. Originally from their small cottage in Westfield, near Bathgate, we began supplying skip hire in West Lothian. With a single skip truck and a handful of homemade skips, Morag answered the phone to customers and James delivered them. As a result of lots of hard work over the years, the company has steadily grown. In 2001 we opened our own SEPA licensed Waste Transfer Station in Deans Industrial Estate, Livingston. This allowed us to collect our skips and to process the waste, diverting on average over 98% of all waste we receive from landfill. Now more than 30 years later we have grown into one of Central Scotland’s most efficient and responsive skip hire companies.
Present day
During this time our team has grown considerably from originally just James and Morag, to now employing over 40 people. Our fleet of trucks has also expanded – we now have 21 vehicles consisting of a mixture of different sized skip lorries, hook loaders, an 8×4 Tipper truck and a Grab Lorry. Our stock of skips has also increased; from the first couple of homemade skips, to now having over 800 different skips in stock.
This has allowed us to expand our product offering – we can now directly offer our customers a range of services such as the complete range of skip sizes from the 2YD mini skips right up to the huge 40YD bins, we supply a range of recycled aggregate products (4mm sand, Type 1 and 6F5) and our Grab lorry is capable of offering a Muck away service which involves the operator collecting loads of soil from customers sites.
